We are excited to offer a Winter session of Advanced Chess and Beginner / Intermediate Chess on Tuesdays beginning January 7. Chess has been proven to increase analytical and critical thinking skills. Chess makes creative problem solving into an enjoyable and stimulating game. Countless studies have shown that test scores, self - esteem, concentration and creative thinking increase after being exposed to chess. Students will be broken into groups depending on their ability level and learn from experienced and professional chess coaches. There will be at least two chess coaches on site and classes will be divided accordingly.
Tuesday Advanced Chess is open to grades 4-6. Younger students with a USCF Rating can join with permission only. The Winter Session of Tuesday Chess will meet once a week for 11 sessions on TUESDAY afternoons from 2:45 – 4:30 PM. The dates for the program are: 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28. 2/4, 2/11, 2/25. 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25. *If a class is canceled due to weather, we will hold a makeup class on a later date. The fee for the 11 classes is $275. This is ideal for students who wish to compete in tournaments.
**Please note, no class on 2/18** Signups are electronic.
United Rookstars will compete in guided scrimmages, develop strategies and learn new skills to be successful at tournaments. The goal is to compete in tournaments on a regular basis and prepare for the 3 major events: Grade Nationals, NYS Championships and Spring Supernationals. Students will have a chess lesson and then have puzzle solving challenges before having the opportunity to practice against their peers. Students will be assigned exercises to work on in between sessions.
We have scholarship opportunities for a portion of the class tuition if your family qualifies for free/reduced lunch based on 2023 income. If you have any questions please e-mail [email protected] or send a text to 914-772-8277
