We are excited to offer a Winter session of after school chess on Fridays beginning 9/13. Chess has been proven to increase analytical and critical thinking skills. Chess makes creative problem solving into an enjoyable and stimulating game. Countless studies have shown that test scores, self - esteem, concentration and creative thinking increase after being exposed to chess.
Chess Session 2 is and open to 3rd - 6th grade students. Younger students with chess experience may join with prior approval. The Winter session of this chess class will meet once a week for 8 sessions on FRIDAY afternoons from 4:30 – 5:30 PM. The dates for the program are: 1/10, 1/17, 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/28, 3/14. Please note there is no class on 2/21 and 3/7 . *If a class is canceled due to weather, we will hold a makeup class on a later date*. The fee for the 8 classes is $240. Signups are electronic.
Students will have a chess lesson and then have puzzle solving challenges before having the opportunity to practice against their peers. Students will be assigned exercises to work on in between sessions. There is an opportunity to form a competitive chess team where they will participate in local tournaments.
