Brooklyn Summer Chess Camp

We are excited to announce our Brooklyn Series of Summer Chess Camps! Our camp will run from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM IN PERSON at Patterns Enrichment Center located at 217 Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Brooklyn.  Sharpen your chess skills and prepare for the upcoming school year. Often skills are lost during the summer and this is the PERFECT opportunity to regain those skills and help start the school year strong! 

This chess is for students of all levels and abilities. There will be various topics covered such as tactical motifs, dangerous sacrifices, deadly checkmates and fascinating endgame studies. There will be a small ratio of students : teacher to optimize the learning experience. Growing Minds Owner, Alanna Katz, will be leading the camp. We will have guest lectures from top chess coaches such as National Master Abby Marshall and more!

Tentative Schedule: (Pizza lunch and snack provided each day)

9:00 AM - 9:30: Group gathering and camp warm up. The instructor may pick a game or tactic to review with the students

9:30 - 10:15: Lesson with an assigned coach. If numbers permit, classes will be broken down by ability

10:15 - 10:45: Break for snack

10:45 - 11:15: Puzzle Rush! Camp will be broken into teams and students will solve puzzles together as a team

11:15 - 12:00 Tournament activity.  This includes a Simultaneous exhibition, a g/10 tournament,  a bughouse tournament etc. 

Morning only students go home; full day students continue with programming

12:00 - 1:00 PM:  Pizza Lunch in Herbert von King Park. A short walk away from camp, Herbert von King park is a wonderful, spacious park with a beautiful playground and lots of fun to be had. During recess, we will run through sprinklers and cool off with lots of water related fun! 

1:00 PM - 1:30: Group gathering, practice games are played

1:30 - 2:15: Lesson with an assigned coach

2:15 - 2:55: Activity such as puzzle solving, puzzle contests or bughouse fun!

3:00: Pick up. Option for extrended pickup is available!

At the end of the week we will have a tournament where we will crown a camp champion!

Regular Fee: Full week half day: $349, Full week full day: $599
